THE ART ADVENTURE

Tour Artists' Working Studios

Have you ever wondered, when viewing a painting or a sculpture or a piece of jewelry, of how that piece was created? Or what inspired the artist to produce it, and what kind of background, education, experience and talent it took to produce the piece?

Artouring offers a cultural “behind the scenes” look at the artistic community that makes its collective home in the Reno-Tahoe-Virginia City area.

Tours take you into the artist’s studios that are not normally open to the public, to meet and talk with them and to see their work. This becomes an art and architecture tour. The categories might be bronze sculpture, weaving, photography, printmaking, painting, ceramics, jewelry, turned wood or gourd art. It affords the artists an opportunity to talk about their work and their backgrounds. And this gives you an opportunity to ask them questions about their creative process. Each tour takes about a half day and can include lunch, or a tour of the current exhibit at the Nevada Museum of Art. Groups can be transported by mini-bus or self driving.

Toni Lowden Toni Lowden, a long-time Patron of the Arts, and Governor’s Arts Award winner, felt the need to expose the broad number of artisans to convention visitors and local groups. The Artouring program was awarded the Truchee Meadows “Silver Star” Award for improving the quality of life in the Truckee Meadows.

Artouring’s mission is to provide the cultural tourist exposure to the quality of artwork being created in private studios in Northern Nevada.

Original art can be purchased at studio prices.
